Our Process

TrueBlueDot’s fine art print making walks the line between technology and art. We use our color expertise to carefully measure and control the color dynamics of their prints so their clients have the truest reproduction of their original artwork. Our techniques require a keen eye, appreciation for the creative process and the application of sophisticated algorithms.

Our giclees are created using advanced piezo-head technology, considered the finest print technology in the world for its continuous tone quality and superior color gamut. This technology uses computer generated signals to fire ink droplets according to the force generated by the piezo-head’s elements, creating minute changes in the shape and depth of color.

Our Media

Our media is calibrated with the most accurate light measurement tools on the market; giving us unequalled color and standards. TrueBlueDot offers quality media from manufactures such as ILFORD, Hannemule and Breathing Color, as well as custom calibration of your choice of media.

Digital Camera capture

We use a Super 6K digital scan back with 900 watt HID lighting system for original art capture. We color calibrate and profile each shoot with a ColorChecker target and Monaco Profiler software for absolute color fidelity. Artwork and camera are adjusted for parallelism with a zig-align system to ensure a sharp focus from edge to edge. Standard two week turn around time for digital scan back captures with faster turn around times available upon request.

Black and white prints

You may not notice if the sky printed a bit too red but you can’t miss a black and white print that is slightly pink. TrueBlueDot has developed a technique for creating true black and white prints and you’ll see the result was well worth the effort.

The concept of four-color printing says that the color plates are dominant and the black ink serves to transition into shadow. However, achieving neutral balance on giclee prints is difficult due to the strength of the inks and the result can be a “rainbowing” or uneven tone across the image. To solve this problem, we turned the separation on its head and made the black ink dominate while the color inks behave as “helper plates”. Black defines all the tones of the image to make a beautiful black and white print that is blacker and more neutral than other techniques.

We use special 'Symphonic Ultra Max' inks for our giclee prints. With a much deeper colors and no bronzing or metamerism issues, our prints have more vibrancy and durability than the competition.
